Our mascot — The chrysalis.
At the heart of the Monarch brand is a bold, ambitious attitude that thrives on growth and development—so we needed a mascot that embodies that spirit. Choosing the chrysalis over the butterfly might seem unexpected, but we’re not here to follow the norm. The chrysalis represents where the real value lies: in the work, transformation, and transparency that lead to greater success. This is where we live at Monarch—always evolving, always moving forward.
Our origin story.
The story of Monarch Platform begins in 2024, but our roots trace back over 16 years to the vineyards of Marlborough. Founded in 2008 as Marlborough Vine Works with just a few people, some tools, and a van, we built our reputation by delivering reliable viticultural services. In 2013 we rebranded to Hortus, marking a new era of growth and diversification.
As our service offering and reputation steadily grew, we realised our opportunity to impact people and communities worldwide. Our data-rich systems and diverse talent positioned us to scale our ethical success model. To support this vision, we launched Monarch Platform in 2024. Unlike a typical corporate parent that leads from above, our Platform forms a nutrient-rich garden bed from which our hero businesses can grow and thrive.
Monarch houses our back-end and administrative support teams that enable our service-providing businesses. While Hortus continues to thrive in its niche, our other services formed new, independent brands. This has strengthened our offerings, backed by specialised resources and partnerships from the Platform.
The shift to Monarch provided the framework needed to diversify risk and position our people and systems for maximum effectiveness. Today we have a clear understanding of our value and strengths, and we know how and where to deliver them. We believe success can be ethical and sustainable as well as profitable, and we are passionate about helping our businesses realise this.
